I remember spending an inordinate amount of time at an elementary school growing up. This was due to my mother being either an assistant principal or a principal. One of the things that I saw repeatedly was a coffee mug or small poster that read “The 3 best things about teaching: June, July & August.”
I’m intensely curious about when exactly the summers off are going to start in my career. I did have that one summer off that one time, but only because it was my first professional summer and I didn’t know what a gift weeks on end of just planning, thinking about teaching, and catching up on articles and blogs that I’d missed over the school year was. Also, I was not in graduate school.
To start this blog, I’ve decided to share my To-Do list for this summer, which is only about 9 weeks long.
In addition to some of the 9 Things described in “The Myth of Having Summers Off” published on Edutopia, I’ll spend my summer:
1. Completing 2 of my final 3 courses towards a Master’s degree.
2. Teaching Summer School from June 8-19.
3. Attending IB Training in Atlanta from July 7-9.
4. Planning coursework for: IB English A Year 1 and Theory of Knowledge Years 1 & 2
5. Reading, re-reading, or heavily skimming the following works:
